Nha Trang, Pit Stop at the Beach (Biere Larue & The Louisiane Brewhouse)

After getting into Nha Trang after a pretty quick journey and arriving at yet another Sinh Tourist office we had no plans of where we were going to stay and decided to follow a Moto driver. Him on his motorbike and us on foot for only a couple of streets we checked into the 24 Hour Hotel for $6 a night.
Follow my leader through Nha Trang to the Guest House

With Nha Trang being a beach resort we decided we were only going to spend one day before moving onto Hoi An after we had just been living at the beach for two months in Cambodia. Nha Trang is all about the beach so we spent the afternoon sunning ourselves on a lovely beach with a dip in the South China Sea.  It was a beautiful beach even though the guide book tells you otherwise and I thought it was much better than the beach in Mui Ne.  It was another boiling day in Vietnam so we had to look for shade under a palm tree before we looked up and saw coconuts dangling above us. This is pretty dangerous as people are killed every year from falling coconuts so we decided to move and take in an official beach soccer tournament before freshening up for the evening.

Like us people take shelter underneath the Palm Trees

It looks like far too much hard work but pretty entertaining

In need of some Pizza after living off Pho we found Carlos and indulged ourselves on an awesome pizza which included a free beer.  Kate went for a Saigon Green and I tried a new Vietnamese beer, Biere Larue. The Larue wasn’t the greatest beer; maybe we had a dodgy bottle because a lot of people were drinking it and seemed to be enjoying it.
BIERE LARUE, PALE LAGER, VIETNAM, 3.6% ABV, 355ML BTL
Brewed by Da Nang Brewery (Asia Pacific Breweries-Heineken), this pale lager beer has somewhat of a French feel about it with the packaging stating ‘Qualite D’Origine’ established in 1909. The giant Tiger’s head staring out at you paints a different picture.
The brew itself has a dull yellow colour and pours with a thin white head and limited lacing. The aroma is dominated by cereal and an off putting malty smell. It has a medium body with little carbonation and the taste has a chemical tang to put it kindly. It does have some sweetness and a dry aftertaste with slight hop character but this comes with an adjacent musty tone.
Not a great beer at all but to give it some justice maybe I received a dodgy bottle as a lot of people were drinking it on the central coast of Vietnam and I didn’t see anybody returning it to ask for something else. Maybe it is better than my first experience leads me to believe. I will have to give it another go somewhere else, but I won’t be looking forward to that!
Smiling but have not tasted the Larue yet!!!

The town seemed pretty busy with plenty of partying on offer. Not too much more to report as the next day we just time wasted before our first sleeper bus in Vietnam to Hoi An.  We did still take the time to explore the beach front where there were some nice gardens with sculptures and at the South end we came across the Louisiana Brewhouse. It was a great set up right on the beach and I managed to speak with the master brewer.

Finding Louisiane Brewhouse
LOUISIANE BREWHOUSE, NHA TRANG, VIETNAM

Time to go in and take a look around

Louisiane Brewhouse is like no other Brewhouse I have come across so far on the World Adventure. OK maybe like the one 33 stories from ground level in Singapore ‘Same-Same But Different’ as they say in South East Asia.
The Shimmering Copper Brewing Equipment looked something like this...

Set on the beach the Louisiane is beautiful with a private swimming pool and private beach area. A stunning venue with an amazing brewery right there before your very eyes plus an extensive world food offering that ties in nicely with the home brews.
Great location right on the sand
They produce five different beers which are:
Pilsner, Dark Lager, Red Ale, Witbier, Ginger Ale.
All of the above beers are brewed by Brew Master, Sean Symons and he uses carefully selected speciality malts from Australia, new season hops from New Zealand and 100% natural local Vietnamese ingredients. Even the local Nha Trang water is purified to match the brewing water used in famous brewing locations around the world like the Czech Republic and Burton-on-Trent in England which are two places renowned for great beer.

Hot & Thirsty Work but somebody's got to do it

While on the subject of beer I did not expect to see a stock pile of Coors Light while in Nha Trang
We managed to keep the room on for half a day so we could shower before checking out and heading out for the bus. Not sure whether we would stop for food during the night we dossed up on some fat cheeseburgers at the Backpackers House before heading out.
It was nice to have a couple of days relaxing as we always think we have to be doing something all the time.  We knew we were getting on a sleeper bus but this bus turned out to be a whole new experience.  The bus was split into 3 rows with lower and upper bunks so you climbed into your own bed for the night.  It was a little crammed but hopefully this way we would get a good night’s sleep while travelling through the night.  We were both on the top bunks with Kate near the window and me on the centre aisle, hoping we wouldn’t fall out we had seatbelts if needed.

A little worrying...

Welcome onboard bus Sinh Tourist we should touch down in Hoi An approx 12 hours

Pretty excited about the journey it felt more like an aeroplane or a train.  Could even watch a film on the laptop, true luxury travel.  We were really excited about arriving in the UNESCO town of Hoi An, it sounded amazing and only 12 hours away.
